History

Volta do Mar is a modern Portuguese restaurant in the heart of Chelsea, inspired by the culinary journeys of co-founders Simon and Isabel Mullins. Translating to “Return from the Sea,” our name reflects a rich legacy of exploration — both personal and cultural — that informs everything we serve.

Having explored Portugal and the countries along its historic trade routes, our menu is a celebration of global connection. From the vibrant spices of Mozambique to the tropical notes of Brazil, and the deep umami influences of Japan and Macau, our dishes tell a story of movement, history, and flavour. Whether you're after a comforting bacalhau à brás or a Goan-inspired curry, there’s something on our menu to surprise and satisfy.

We’ve created Volta do Mar to be a space that feels relaxed yet refined — a place where locals can unwind with a weekday lunch or gather for dinner before a show. Our set lunch menu offers an accessible, high-quality midday break for nearby professionals and Chelsea’s bustling daytime crowd. In the evenings, we welcome couples, friends, and families looking for something special: modern dining with heart and heritage.

With 40 covers in our main space, a 12-seater private dining room, and a charming outdoor terrace, we’re an intimate destination that punches above our weight. Our team is warm, knowledgeable, and passionate about creating a memorable dining experience, whether you're joining us for a quick bite, a celebration, or one of our quarterly tasting events.

We’re proud to be Michelin-recommended and part of Chelsea’s vibrant food scene — and we look forward to welcoming you soon.
